Terms of service.

Last updated: April 24, 2026  ·  Plain-English summary at the top.

The 30-second summary.

You sign up, we provide Pax Family for the current subscription rate (after a free trial). Founding customers pay $7/month (regular price is $9/month); if you sign up at the founding rate it's locked in for you. You own your family's data; we own the app. Either of us can end the arrangement at any time. Be good to each other.

The short version: If something goes seriously wrong, our liability is capped at what you've paid us. Read the long version below for the formal language.

Agreement.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and [TODO: legal entity name] ("Pax Family," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use Pax Family.

Your account.

  • One account per family. Pax Family is licensed to a single household. Don't share your login with other families.
  • You're responsible for your account. Keep your password secret. If you suspect unauthorized access, reset it immediately and email us.
  • Accurate info. Provide truthful information at signup. Don't impersonate anyone.
  • Minimum age. The adult creating the account must be at least 18 years old. Child profiles you add within the account are the responsibility of the parent/guardian who created the account.

Subscription and billing.

  • Free trial. New accounts receive a 30-day free trial. No credit card is required for the trial.
  • After the trial. If you want to keep using Pax Family, you subscribe to the Basic plan at the then-current rate, billed by Stripe. The regular price is $9.00 USD per month. Early supporters are offered a founding customer rate of $7.00 USD per month, which remains locked for your account for as long as you keep your subscription active. The trial does not auto-convert — you choose whether to subscribe.
  • Renewal. Paid subscriptions renew monthly on the same date until cancelled.
  • Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from your account page (two clicks via Stripe's Customer Portal). Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid period — you keep access until then.
  • Price changes. If we change the subscription price, we'll email you at least 30 days before it takes effect on your account. You can cancel if you disagree.
  • Failed payments. If a charge fails, Stripe will retry. If payment ultimately fails, your account enters a read-only state until you update your payment method.

Refunds.

Because you get a 30-day free trial before paying anything, we don't typically issue refunds for partial months — you can cancel at any time to stop the next charge. That said, if something went genuinely wrong (a bug, an unexpected charge, a family emergency), email us at support@paxfamilyapp.com.

We'll make it right. Real humans, not a ticket queue.

Your data.

  • You own it. The content you create in Pax Family — children's names, tasks, events, notes, completion history — belongs to you. We just store and display it.
  • We use it only to run the Service for you. See the Privacy Policy for details.
  • Export anytime. You can request an export of your data by emailing us.
  • Deletion. You can request permanent deletion at any time. See the Privacy Policy for retention details.

Acceptable use.

When you use Pax Family, you agree not to:

  • Upload content that is illegal, harassing, obscene, or that infringes someone else's rights.
  • Add another family's children to your account without the consent of their parent or guardian.
  • Attempt to circumvent our billing, rate limits, or security controls.
  • Reverse engineer, scrape, or automate the Service beyond normal use.
  • Use Pax Family to send spam or any unsolicited bulk communication.
  • Resell, sublicense, or white-label the Service without our written permission.
  • Abuse the AI summary feature (e.g., deliberately crafted prompts to extract non-family data or exploit the model).

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this policy.

Intellectual property.

The Pax Family name, logo, design, code, and documentation are our intellectual property. You get a limited, non-transferable license to use the Service while your subscription is active. You don't get any rights to our code, branding, or trademarks beyond that.

Service availability.

We work hard to keep Pax Family available, but we don't offer a formal uptime SLA at this price point. The Service is provided on a "best effort" basis. Scheduled maintenance may temporarily interrupt availability; we'll give notice when feasible.

Third-party services.

Pax Family integrates with third-party services (Stripe for payments, Postmark for email, Anthropic's Claude API for AI summaries). Those services have their own terms. We're not responsible for outages or issues on their end, though we'll help troubleshoot where we can.

Disclaimers.

Pax Family is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost. Keep your own backups of anything critical.

Limitation of liability.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, or emotional distress.

Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations — if that's you, the above applies to the maximum extent permitted.

Termination.

  • You can terminate at any time by cancelling your subscription and (optionally) emailing us to request deletion of your family's data.
  • We can terminate your account if you violate these Terms, repeatedly fail to pay, or use the Service in a way that threatens its integrity. Where practical, we'll give you notice and a chance to fix the issue first.
  • Upon termination, your access to the Service ends. Data retention follows the Privacy Policy.

Governing law and disputes.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [TODO: State], United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in [TODO: State], and you agree to personal jurisdiction there.

Before filing any formal claim, email us at support@paxfamilyapp.com and give us a reasonable chance to resolve the issue directly. We want to help, not fight.

Changes to these Terms.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If the changes are material, we'll email you at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.

Miscellaneous.

  • Entire agreement. These Terms plus the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us.
  • Severability. If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
  • No waiver. Our failure to enforce a right doesn't waive it.
  • No assignment. You can't transfer your account to someone else without our written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger or sale.
